Malta was the first Member State of the European Union (EU) to introduce regulations on online gaming. It is considered as one of the largest online gaming jurisdictions and the most popular location for operators that seek licensing for their online gaming business. The Malta gaming licence issued by the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) is undoubtedly one of the most reputable licences for online gaming worldwide.

The MGA offers B2C licence or B2B licence, as per the new Gaming Act issued by the Malta Gaming Authority in 2018 that can cover all gaming verticals:

  • casino games,

  • RNG based games,

  • lotteries,

  • sports betting,

  • fantasy sports,

  • p2p games,

  • online poker

Curacao

The Curacao gaming license is one of the world’s most popular with some 450 online gambling operators licensed and operating from within the jurisdiction.

But what makes it so popular?

Firstly, Curacao is considered as by far one of the most accessible jurisdictions for licensing. It also has one of the shortest processing times and offers a one-size-fits-all license, regardless of the game type.

This, combined with its cost-efficiency, means it is the perfect location for startups and those taking their first step in the online gambling business.

Anjouan

The Anjouan online gaming license has gained significant attention, particularly with uncertainties surrounding Curaçao’s online gaming licensing regime. Anjouan is becoming one of the most popular licensing authorities in the iGaming industry due to several key factors:

1. Broad Capabilities: The Anjouan license covers all forms of gaming, allowing operators to secure a single license for various gaming products such as online casino games, sports betting, and poker. This versatility provides operators the flexibility to tailor special offers to their target audience.

2. Openness to Cryptocurrency: Anjouan accepts license applications from crypto casinos, making it attractive to operators who want to integrate blockchain technology

3. Tax Benefits: Anjouan imposes no gambling tax; the only financial obligation for online gambling companies is the annual license renewal fee.

4. Opportunities in Emerging Markets: Anjouan authorities allow licensees to accept players from various markets, with exceptions for certain countries.

Alderney

Alderney is the third largest of the British Channel Islands and forms part of the Bailiwick of Guernsey.

The Alderney Gambling Control Commission (AGCC) regulates online gaming and gambling.

AGCC licensees are in a position to benefit from all the services that Alderney and its larger sister Island, Guernsey, provides.

An eGambling licence from the AGCC can be used by a licensee to operate in any country where it is legal to do so. In some countries, including the UK for example, a licensee will also be required to obtain a local licence issued by that country if accessing that market.
